The Delta County Emergency Alerts system is managed by Delta County Emergency Management and Delta County 911 Dispatch as a service of the Delta County Emergency Telephone Service Authority.  As the official emergency alert system for Delta County, we provide community and emergency alerts to the Delta County 911 service area which includes all of Delta County, the Maher area and Hwy 92 south of Crawford to the North Rim of Black Canyon National Park and the Somerset and Hwy 133 areas of McClure Pass, County Road 265 and County Road 12 - Kebler Pass.  If you live, work or own property in any of these areas, you are encouraged to sign up for Delta County Alerts with your home address, work address (if in Delta County) and your kid's school if applicable.

Visiting Delta County on vacation or to see friends/family? Opt-into emergency alerts during your stay for 7-days by texting "visitdeltacounty" to 65513.  The 7-day window starts when you hit submit on your text and after 7-days your cell phone number will be automatically deleted from the system.  After you text the enrollment phrase, the system will put you in a group to receive all alerts issued during your 7-day stay and you will receive phone calls and texts to that number.  Staying for longer than 7-days? You can text again after 7-days has elapsed or contact Delta County Emergency Management via email and staff will enroll you in the system for a longer period of time.

2.  Download the Genasys Protect App

Delta County Alerts is powered by Genasys Alert, a cloud based solution Delta County pays for annually to issue Emergency Alerts.  As of May 2024, Genasys has a brand new mobile app called Genasys Protect.  Residents/visitors to Delta County who download the app will receive push notifications from for emergency alerts via the app.

  • Mobile App for Android and iPhone users
  • The App will issue an alert based on your phone's location - if you are in the alert area you will receive alert through the app
  • No registration required! Download the app and follow the prompts for settings to receive alerts
  • You can save up to four (4) locations you want to receive alerts for such as your home, work, children's school(s), relative's homes, church, etc even if you are not at those locations.
  • For the best coverage we recommend you combine this app with a registered Delta County Alerts profile to get phone calls, texts and App notifications.

*Note - The Genasys Protect App only receives alerts from jurisdictions who have Genasys as their emergency alert provider. The following Counties in Western Colorado utilize Genasys:  DeltaMontroseGunnisonOuraySan Miguel and Hinsdale. The app will send notices to your phone if any alerts are issued by these jurisdictions and you are within the alert area. If you travel to a county which utilizes another app provider, then you will not be alerted. Example - Mesa County uses Everbridge for their Emergency Alerts so you will NOT receive alerts via the App for Mesa County.

Make sure Wireless Emergency Alerts are turned on in your phone!

Alerts via the FEMA Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)

When an incident such as a major wildfire breaks out, Delta County Emergency Management has the ability to issue a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA)

  •  A WEA is the same type of alert as an Amber Alert where your phone will emit a distinct alert tone, vibration and message on the screen you must acknowledge.
  • WEA alerts are only sent for major incidents which have the possibility to impact public and life safety.  These are the highest level of alert issued and are not common.
  • No registration is required and you do NOT have to download an app.
  • Wireless Emergency Alerts  are turned on by default in your phone. However, we recommend you confirm they are enabled so you can receive a WEA when issued by Delta County or any other jurisdiction where you may be traveling.  To check your wireless emergency alert settings on your phone, click on the phone operating system you have:  Android | iPhone
