Sheriff's Office Announces "Art on Patrol" 3rd Grade Art Contest Winners
March 6, 2025
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Art on Patrol program coordinator Sergeant Travis Lackey are thrilled to announce the Fall 2024 Art on Patrol winning artists from third grade classrooms around Delta County! The Fall 2024 Art Contest theme was “My Friend the Police Officer” and was put out to art teachers across the district to work with their students in third grade (ages 8 to 9) to complete an original piece of artwork in a medium except sculpture or 3D methods which could be digitized for display on a patrol truck.
Sheriff’s Office staff reviewed all entries and selected a winning drawing from each school. Pictured below is the artwork of each student and the student receiving a certificate from the patrol deputy whose vehicle their artwork was proudly displayed! Congratulations to all the students!
The Spring 2025 art contest will be starting soon and we look forward to announcing the winners this spring!

Sheriff's Office Partners with School District for "Art on Patrol" Program
December 10, 2024
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce a new community initiative in partnership with the Delta County School District to build relationships between the Sheriff’s Office, community and students. The program called “Art on Patrol,” strives to celebrate the artistic abilities of our county’s youth in an art contest which results in the winner having their artwork proudly displayed on the rear side windows of a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle for up to two-months.
Patrol Sergeant Travis Lackey, is leading the new initiative and his hope is the program will be a way to “celebrate our kids and community together!” According to Sergeant Lackey, the Art on Patrol program involves the Sheriff’s Office choosing a theme and it will be presented to a chosen grade across the School District. Art teachers for that grade will then work with their students to complete artwork in any medium (except sculpture or 3D art) for the contest. Each school will submit their entries to the Sheriff’s Office for judging and Sheriff’s Office staff will select a winning art piece from each school to be featured on patrol.
Winning artwork will be digitized and put on large window decals which will be proudly displayed on the back side windows of a Sheriff’s Deputy Patrol vehicle and driven all over the county during the course of their duties. Deputies who have artwork placed on their vehicles will meet with the winning artists and present them with a certificate and have their photo taken to be showcased on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page (after consent is approved by parents). The winning artwork will then be displayed in Cedaredge at the Apple Shed Gallery.
According to Sheriff Mark Taylor and Sergeant Lackey, the goal is to help the community and deputies not only celebrate the artwork and creativity of our area’s youth but also encourage conversations between the deputies and members of the public while deputies are out on patrol. Sergeant Lackey said his hope is for each school in the district to be able to participate and showcase the unique talents of students across the age groups.
The program started in November with students in 3rd grade and we received amazing entries from students at Cedaredge K-8, Hotchkiss K-8, Paonia K-8, Vision Charter Academy, North Fork School of Integrated Studies, North Fork Montessori at Crawford, Lincoln and Garnet Mesa Elementary Schools. Winners and their artwork will be showcased soon after deputies have had a chance to present certificates and get their photo taken with all wining artists.
The program is made possible through efforts of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Delta County School District. Once artwork is received, it is digitized by Emergency Management and Lasting Impressions in Paonia prints the amazing window decals to apply to patrol vehicles. Special thanks to Connie and Neal Black, owners of Lasting Impressions for their continued support of the community and donation for this project!
Art on Patrol updates will be posted to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page as well as here on the Sheriff’s Office website. Follow these locations for the latest updates!
